The Last Frontier-My Trip To Underground River

I want to share with you today one of my greatest experiences during my travel to Palawan - the last frontier in the Philippines. I had this privilege of seeing this paradise I thought never existed. Let me begin by saying,
"How Great Thou Art!"

This is a title of a popular hymn which I tried to sang when I saw the awesome underground river (This is part of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park which is a world heritage site) with its majestic view. As I began to sing, I remember my dad as he would always sing this hymn every time he would encounter a blessing. Indeed, I count it as gift and a dear blessing from God that day! The entrance to the cave opens itself to the mysterious navigable trek (more than 8.2 km) which will remind you again to some of our well-loved Indiana Jones movies. As you enter, you can imagine that you are about to be swallowed up by this huge mouth of wonders you would never dare to refuse. The entrance of the cave is so inviting that the moment we embarked into the canoe, I found myself requesting the tourist guide to quickly move in so we can immediately go and see what's inside. My heart was just so full of excitement and indescribable joy as we navigated inside the cave. Our guide knew that among everyone on board, I was the one who can't really wait to plunge into the deep and enticing cave. I had this overwhelming sense of excitement which I think compelled him to move quickly! Anyway, we went on with the sight-seeing and among the most beautiful spots my favorite is the sanctuary-like place covered with huge stalagmites and stalactites which sparkle as they're being lighted by the piercing rays of the sun.
"My heart was truly amazed of how wonderfully God created all these things for our pleasure".
It reminded me of how valuable we are in His sight that He finds pleasure in seeing us, rejoicing over His creations. I remember as well how precious we are to Him when He gave His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins at the cross in Calvary. God in His great love thought of us that He did not just rescued us from sin and death but he made it sure that we would enjoy life to its fullness even through His creations. To sum it up, my trip to the Underground River in Palawan Island reminded me again of this simple truth that "life finds its joys in little things". God made all these things for us to enjoy and in return we are to take care of these wonders that God has entrusted to us.

To get there: It's a 2 hour drive from the city proper to Brgy. Cabayugan in Sitio Sabang then from there you have to take a 30-minute boat ride to reach the park. Enjoy Philippines!
